On a few occasions lately, I have had to abort the flight mid-air due to some or other random simism. IIRC, in P3D FSUIPC could do periodic state saves of the aircraft, so if the sim crashed I could reload my PMDG 777 or whatever else i was flying from the point of crash and things would happily continue.
